چکیده

Abstract. If an n× n complex matrix A is nonsingular, then for every integer m > 1, A has an mth root B, i.e., Bm = A. In this paper, we present a new simple proof for the Jordan canonical form of the root B. Moreover, a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of mth roots of a singular complex matrix A is obtained. This condition is in terms of the dimensions of the null spaces of the powers Ak (k = 0, 1, 2, . . .).

Computation of the q-th roots of circulant matrices

In this paper, we investigate the reduced form of circulant matrices and we show that the problem of computing the q-th roots of a nonsingular circulant matrix A can be reduced to that of computing the q-th roots of two half size matrices B - C and B + C.

A STABLE COUPLED NEWTON'S ITERATION FOR THE MATRIX INVERSE $P$-TH ROOT

The computation of the inverse roots of matrices arises in evaluating non-symmetriceigenvalue problems, solving nonlinear matrix equations, computing some matrixfunctions, control theory and several other areas of applications. It is possible toapproximate the matrix inverse pth roots by exploiting a specialized version of New-ton's method, but previous researchers have mentioned that some iter...

Analytic extension of a $N$th roots of $M$-hyponormal operator

In this paper‎, ‎we study some properties of analytic extension of a $n$th roots of $M$-hyponormal operator‎. ‎We show that every analytic extension of a $n$th roots of $M$-hyponormal operator is subscalar of order $2k+2n$‎. ‎As a consequence‎, ‎we get that if the spectrum of such operator $T$ has a nonempty interior in $mathbb{C}$‎, ‎then $T$ has a nontrivial invariant subspace‎. ‎Finally‎, ‎w...

Probability of having $n^{th}$-roots and n-centrality of two classes of groups

In this paper, we consider the finitely 2-generated groups $K(s,l)$ and $G_m$ as follows:$$K(s,l)=langle a,b|ab^s=b^la, ba^s=a^lbrangle,\G_m=langle a,b|a^m=b^m=1, {[a,b]}^a=[a,b], {[a,b]}^b=[a,b]rangle$$ and find the explicit formulas for the probability of having nth-roots for them. Also, we investigate integers n for which, these groups are n-central.
